Description	:	Jean Burgus, 88, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2009, from her home at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Jean was born to Lee and Addie (York) Myers on October 13, 1920, in the community of Panther Creek, northwest of Adel, where she spent her childhood. She was married to Homer Anderson Burgus on September 7, 1941, shortly before Homer left for 3 ½ years of service during World War II. Read More	Jean Burgus, 88, went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2009, from her home at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Jean was born to Lee and Addie (York) Myers on October 13, 1920, in the community of Panther Creek, northwest of Adel, where she spent her childhood. She was married to Homer Anderson Burgus on September 7, 1941, shortly before Homer left for 3 ½ years of service during World War II. When he returned, the couple lived near Norwalk for a time before moving back to the Panther area where they farmed for many years, eventually returning to the farm where Jean had been raised. In 1993, Jean and Homer retired from farming and moved to Perry. After Homer's death in 2004, Jean moved to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, where she resided until her death. Jean led a rewarding life which was deeply steeped in family, extended family, church, and community. She was an active member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, where she served in several leadership capacities throughout the years, and where she sang in the choir and women's quartet for several years. The church and her deep and abiding faith, nurtured through and with this church, remained steadfast source of strength and serenity throughout Jean's life. Jean is survived by her children: son, Dan (Judy) Burgus, of Adel, daughter Shari Burgus, of Waukee, and son, Jerry (Brenda) Burgus, of Honokaa, HI. Also surviving are grandchildren Anndrea (Toby) Golightly-Jayne, of Chicago, Ryan (Jess) Burgus, of Minneapolis; Matthew (Tammy) Burgus, of Yorktown Heights, NY; and Tate (Michelle) Golightly, of West Des Moines; great- grandchildren include Kirsten Bond, Bryelle Burgus, Haley Pettis, Sidney Pettis, Elizabeth Jayne, Anderson Jayne, and Reese Mattea Jean Golightly who was born the day after Jean's death.
