Jean 'Jeanetta' Achterhof
RAPID CITY - Jean (Jeanetta) Achterhof, 91, Rapid City, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Her memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date at Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel in Rapid City, with the Rev. Doug Diehl officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center, Iowa.

Jean 'Jeanetta' Achterhof
RAPID CITY - Jean (Jeanetta) Achterhof, 91, Rapid City, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City.
Her memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date at Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel in Rapid City, with the Rev. Doug Diehl officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center, Iowa.
Jean (Van Otterloo) was born Oct. 9, 1917, at Rock Valley, IA, to John and Adrianna (Noteboom) Van Otterloo. She married Lawrence Achterhof, Sioux Center, on Oct. 25, 1935, and they lived in Sioux Center for over 64 years. Jean served as county chairman for the TB Association and bookkeeper for Achterhof Real Estate for many years. In addition to her time spent on the Sioux County (IA) Board for the Council on Aging, she also sang with the Sioux County Womens Chorus and the Praise Choir of the First Reformed Church.
Between the time of her husband's death in 2000 and her move to Somerset Court, Rapid City, in 2006, she lived with her son Douglas and his family in Wellman, IA, and Glenwood, IA. Throughout her lifetime, Jean enjoyed traveling with her husband, singing, playing the piano and organ, painting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Every fall her grandchildren would look forward to receiving the warm, colorful mittens and scarves that Grandma had lovingly knitted for them.
Jean Achterhof is survived by two sons, Roger (Carole) Achterhof, Spirit Lake, IA, and Douglas (Karen) Achterhof, Dayton, WY; one daughter, Beverly Rohl, Rapid City; nine grandchildren, Dane (Cheryl) De Kock, West Des Moines, IA, Douglas De Kock, Pleasant Hill, IA, Kristin (Glenn Ronaldson) Achterhof, Hinsdale, IL, Linda (James) Davis, Barrington, RI, Marta Achterhof, Spirit Lake, IA, Kona Achterhof, Missoula, MT, Tara (Vic) Garrett, Walker, MO, Troy Achterhof, Gillette, WY, and Kley Achterhof, Ranchester, WY; and four great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gerrit Van Otterloo; her husband, Lawrence; a daughter and her husband, Deloras and Duane De Kock; a son-in-law, Michael Rohl; a granddaughter, Kate Achterhof; and a great-grandson, Daniel Achterhof.
Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel is in care of the arrangements.
A prayer service and celebration of life was held April 10 at the First Reformed Church Chapel for Jean Achterhof, 91, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Sioux Center, who passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Hospice of the Hills in Rapids City.
Rev. Bob Holtrop officiated. A graveside service immediately followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Jean Achterhof is survived by two sons, Roger Achterhof and his wife Carole of Spirit Lake, and Douglas Achterhof and his wife Karen of Dayton, Wyo.; one daughter, Beverly Rohl of Rapid City; nine grandchildren: Dane De Kock and his wife Cheryl of West Des Moines, Douglas De Kock of Pleasant Hill, Kristin Achterhof and her husband Glenn Ronaldson of Hinsdale, Ill., Linda Davis and her husband James of Barrington, RI, Marta Achterhof of Spirit Lake, Kona Achterhof of Missoula, Mont., Tara Garrett and her husband Vic of Walker, Mo., Troy Achterhof of Gillette, Wyo., and Kley Achterhof of Ranchester, Wyo; and four great-grandsons: Jeremy and Colby Garrett, Cole De Kock and Sidney Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Deloras and Duane De Kock; son-in-law, Michael Rohl; granddaughter, Kate Achterhof; great-grandson, Daniel Achterhof and a brother, Gerrit Van Otterloo.
