She became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on September 13, 1925 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Eldorado. She confirmed her faith on May 5, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church of West Union, where she continued to be a faithful member. Jeanette attended grade school at Donnan, Iowa and in 1942 graduated from West Union High School. She helped do chores on the family farm with her parents and older brother Kenny. After high school she was employed at the Argo Gazette newspaper (predecessor of the Fayette County Union) in West Union. On October 28, 1949, Jeanette was united in marriage to John "Hans" Carl Lueder, Jr. at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three sons. Jeanette was a homemaker and helpmate in their farming operation south of West Union on Highway 150. The farm included dairy and beef cattle, hogs, chickens and growing corn, soybeans, oats and hay. Hans and Jeanette danced for 15 years with the Swinging Squares dance club and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with the group at a square dance convention in Hawaii. They also chaperoned 4-H youth trips to Washington DC and North Platte, Nebraska. Jeanette also enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed sharing her goodies with the grandchildren. She was a member of several neighborhood community groups and Zion Lutheran Church Women. Jeanette died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, June 9, 2012 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2000, a grandson Andrew Lueder, and her brother Kenneth Springer. Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Dennis and his wife Pam and their children - Jeremy and Benjamin; Michael and his children – Brooke and her husband Paul Charbonneaux, Nicole Weidemann and Steven serving as a Marine in Afghanistan; Kevin and his wife Sue and their children – Christopher and his fiancée Rachel Walkes and Kayla; a sister-in-law Norma Springer, all of West Union; nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless Jeanette's memory in the mist of her family, friends and congregation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, IA, with Rev. David Grant officiating. Burial will take place at West Union Cemetery following the service. A public visitation will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, 212 E. Elm St. West Union, as well as one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday. The Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, Sumner, IA is in charge of arrangements. Ph. 563-422-3615.
