She was the daughter of Clifford and Mae (Wold) Huntley. Jeanette was raised in Halfa, Iowa and was a graduate of Halfa High School. Following her education she moved to Ringsted and was employed for many years at the Emmet County State Bank. While in Ringsted; Emmet County, Iowa she married Russell Hoien and the couple moved to Malcom; Poweshiek County, Iowa in 1966. They were later divorced. In 1973, she married Wavern McDowell in Omaha; Douglas County, Nebraska and they moved to Gilman; Marshall County, Iowa in 1975, where she was employed for several years at the Citizens Savings Bank. Jeanette was an active member and taught Sunday school at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Ringsted, Iowa and later at the United Methodist Church in Malcom, Iowa. She loved flowers and tending to her flower gardens, and feeding birds and squirrels in her yard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching NCAA basketball. Jeanette's life was centered on her family. She loved her grandchildren and cared deeply for her family and friends. Jeanette (Huntley) McDowell, age 80, passed away on Tuesday; March 17, 2009, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband: Wavern of Gilman, Iowa. Her three children: Tom (Mary) Hoien of Columbia; Boone County, Missouri. Tim Hoien of Brooklyn; Poweshiek County, Iowa and Teresa (Tracey Rothenberger) Hoien of Kennett Square; Chester County, Pennsylvania. Her two step-children: Roger McDowell of Ely; White Pine County, Nevada and Rod (Dee) McDowell of Phoenix; Maricopa County, Arizona; one sister, Beverley (Jim) Beaver of Spirit Lake; Dickinson County, Iowa. Her seven grandchildren: Amy (Chad) Larson of Brooklyn, Iowa. Todd (Barb) Hoien and Matt Hoien all of Columbia, Missouri. T. J. Hoien of Reinbeck; Tama County, Iowa. Jessie and Cody Hoien of Brooklyn, Iowa and Keely McDowell of Arizona. Her three great-grandchildren: Dylan and Jackson Eichhorn of Brooklyn, Iowa and Jack Hoien of Columbia, Missouri. Also her two nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter-in-law: Rhonda Hoien. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; March 20, 2009 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. untill 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; March 21, 2009 with Pastor Dennis Smith of the Madison Church of Christ near Brooklyn, Iowa officiating at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn, Iowa. Memorial contributions in Jeanette's honor may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
