Description	:	Jeanette passed away at her home in Hanford on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at the age of 92. She was born May 28, 1912, on a ranch north of Hanford to Alpheus and Etta Griswold. Jeanette was the second child and the last of five Griswold children having been preceded in death by siblings, Edward Griswold, Lyman Griswold, Evelyn Griswold Parker and George Griswold. Read More	Jeanette passed away at her home in Hanford on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at the age of 92. She was born May 28, 1912, on a ranch north of Hanford to Alpheus and Etta Griswold. Jeanette was the second child and the last of five Griswold children having been preceded in death by siblings, Edward Griswold, Lyman Griswold, Evelyn Griswold Parker and George Griswold. Jeanette attended Lucerne and Pioneer Elementary schools and Hanford High School. She went on to Fresno State University where she obtained her B.A. and M.A. degrees. She served as a teacher, principal and supervisor in Kings County schools. She was principal of Lucerne School in 1941. She also taught for Fresno State University and worked for the State Department of Education in Sacramento. During World War II, Jeanette served with the American Red Cross on Kodiak Island where she operated a ski chalet providing an R&R facility for members of the Armed Services. Jeanette was a very adventurous person and during one summer break from teaching she and her good friend Leila spent the summer exploring the island of Cuba, from end to end, in Leila's new convertible. When Jeanette was 69, she started backpacking in the high Sierras doing 100-mile treks to raise money for the Mid Valley Lung Association. In fact, she climbed Mt. Whitney when she was in her mid-70s. She was one of 17 people to participate in the first bicycle tour in China bicycling over 600 miles. Together with her sister Evelyn, she traveled to Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Australia, and New Zealand. She also visited Panama, Italy and England. Jeanette was recently recognized as being a member of the First United Methodist Church longer than any current member. During her life Jeanette was a member of the United Methodist Women, American Association of University Women, Readers Forum, Retired Teachers Association, Kings County Art League, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Heritage League and the Carnegie Museum. Jeanette is survived by her sisters-in-law, Evalynne Griswold and Audry Griswold; nieces and nephews, Tedra Battaglia, Jocelyn Wright, and Charlotte Griswold Turgis, Wendy Lewis, Craig Griswold, Toni Huston, Renee Goldberg, Margot Johntz, Edward Griswold Jr., George Griswold Jr. and numerous great-and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her niece Carol Cordano and nephew Michael Parker.
