Description	:	Jeanette Marie Damon, 80 years, passed away April 26, 2017, in Mission, SD, She was born August 12, 1927 in Okreek, SD, to Bernard and Ada (Little Money) Flood. She went to the Okreek Day School and went as far as the 8th grade. She would say she graduated from the School off Hard Knocks. In 1942, the family moved to Hastings, NE. Read More	Jeanette Marie Damon, 80 years, passed away April 26, 2017, in Mission, SD, She was born August 12, 1927 in Okreek, SD, to Bernard and Ada (Little Money) Flood. She went to the Okreek Day School and went as far as the 8th grade. She would say she graduated from the School off Hard Knocks. In 1942, the family moved to Hastings, NE. There she met a young Navajo marine, Lee R. Damon. They were married in 1948. To this union they had four children, Marla, Patricia, James and Michael. In 1956 Jean and Lee went to San Francisco, CA where their youngest, Michael was born. After Lee finished school they returned to Hastings, NE. In 1958 they moved to Ft. Defiance, AZ on the Navajo reservation. Jeanette took a job at Good Shepherd Mission as a cook. She worked her way to being an Episcopal Lay Reader. Steven Plummer a young Navajo was her interpreter. They worked the St. Mark's Chapel in Coal Mine, AZ, the Lupton, Houck area where they would visit families of the children who were housed in the dorms at Good Shepherd Mission, Later, Steve Plummer became the 1st Navajo priest and Navajo Bishop on the Navajo reservation. Jeanette worked faithfully for her church there for 12 years and made a big impact on many lives there. In 1970 she moved back home to South Dakota to be closer to her parents. She went to work at Bishop Hare Home as a cook and later went to work at the Delta Marie Home with her cousin/sister Evelyn Two Hawk. She later took a job with the BIA Dorm. She retired from there in 1991. Her whole life centered around working with children and families. She died peacefully at her home with family by her side. She leaves four children, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, numerous family and friends in South Dakota and on the Navajo reservation, brother Collins Flood, and sister Maybelle Dixon. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ada (Little Money) Flood, her husband, Lee R. Damon, Brothers Cleveland, John, Bernard, Jr. and her little brother Lavern Delmar Flood who died three days after her funeral, and two infant sisters.
