Description	:	Jeanette "Verna" Van Zee, daughter of Gerrit and Hattie (Vreugdenhil) Van Zee, was born November 19, 1919 at New Holland, SD. She was the oldest of four children, and received her education at the Christian school in New Holland. At the age of 18, Verna had Rheumatic Fever. She was bedridden for six months and had many additional months of recuperation. Verna was united in marriage with Eugene Hoekman on August 5, 1943 at his parents' home in Corsica, SD. Read More	Jeanette "Verna" Van Zee, daughter of Gerrit and Hattie (Vreugdenhil) Van Zee, was born November 19, 1919 at New Holland, SD. She was the oldest of four children, and received her education at the Christian school in New Holland. At the age of 18, Verna had Rheumatic Fever. She was bedridden for six months and had many additional months of recuperation. Verna was united in marriage with Eugene Hoekman on August 5, 1943 at his parents' home in Corsica, SD. Verna moved to Durham, NC near the military base where Eugene was serving during World War II. When Gene was sent overseas, Verna moved back to Corsica to live with Gene's parents and worked at the local cafe. In 1951, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD. In 1959, the couple returned to Corsica where they owned and operated a grocery store until 1973. They then moved back to Sioux Falls where they have lived since. Verna was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. She was also a very active member of Ladies Bible Fellowship for many years. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eugene Hoekman, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Shari Koehn and her husband, Fred, Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, Gary Hoekman and his wife, Carolee, Rapid City, SD, Bob Hoekman, Apple Valley, MN; three granddaughters, Alisha Likness and her husband, Jared, Bellingham, WA, Amber and Jenna Hoekman, both of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law, Faye Noteboom, New Holland, SD, Elaine Dugan, Des Moines, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Fred, John and Gerald Van Zee
