Description	:	Jeanie Marie (Dvorak) Shavlik was born March 19, 1931 on her parents' farm south of Linwood. Her father Albin had his own trucking and corn shelling business, as well as farm crops and livestock. Her mother Marian (Rousar) took care of the garden, chickens and hogs, and spent a lot of time with Jean. Jean attended district #38 grade school at Nimburg. Her first two years of high school were at Linwood. With no teacher available for 11th grade she attended Prague High School. Her mother Marian (Rousar) took care of the garden, chickens and hogs, and spent a lot of time with Jean. Jean attended district #38 grade school at Nimburg. For her senior year she returned to Linwood High School and met a new classmate Stanley Shavlik. Jean graduated from high school in 1948. She then took a teacher certification course that summer at Midland College. Eventually she taught for several years at rural school District #86 in N.W. Saunders County. Jean and Stanley were married November 7, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Linwood. They lived on the Shavlik family farm, first in a newly built 'cabin' (small house) and later switched with Stanley's parents Louis and Millie Shavlik and lived in the larger farm house. Jean was interested in flowers, and her rose garden was visited by garden clubs. As a farm wife she helped with chores, book work, housework, shopping, cooking, vegetable gardening, 'putting up produce', maintaining beautiful flowerbeds and raising three children. Her parents got an upright piano for Jean, plus lessons. This skill was put to use as a school teacher and for enjoyment at home. One of her favorite songs was 'Stardust' by Hoagy Carmichael. Jean's main hobby was reading the daily newspaper or any number of 'Ladies Magazines'. She proudly had an article published by 'Flower & Garden'. She had quite a library of favorite books. In her later years, Jean lost her vision to Macular Degeneration. Jean also loved dogs; beagles, bassets or mixed breeds. Survivors include her husband, Stanley of Linwood; children, Laura(Henry)Rahlfs, of North Bend, Paul(Lucy)Shavlik of Fremont and Nancy(Jack)Soukup of Davey; 5 grandchildren, Henry Rahlfs, Jr., Mick Rahlfs, Bill Rahlfs, Connie Hartung and Renae Lockhart and 8 great grandchildren, Michael and Brittany Rahlfs, Branden Claussen, Lane and Ciera Hartung, Melany, Samantha and Peyton Lockhart; sister-in-law, Rose Vanis of Bellwood, NE; brother-in-law, Milo Shavlik of North Platte, NE; aunt, Margaret Grotelueschen and Many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, George Vanis and sister-in-law, Phyllis Shavlik. Funeral will be 10 AM, Thursday August 23, 2018 at Moser Memorial Chapel North Bend. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Wednesday and with family receiving friends from 6:30 - 8 PM all at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, NE. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery near Linwood.
