Read More	Gaffney Ledger obituary April 24, 2017 Gaffney, SC - Friday evening, April 21, 2017, Jefferson Albert Blanton, passed on from his earthly life to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on December 10, 1944, to Albert X. Blanton and Myrtle C. Blanton. Jeff grew up on his parent's farm where his love for gardening took its roots. He was an alumnus of Gaffney High School and graduated from Clemson University in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He entered his career with the Charleston Naval Shipyard after and trained as a nuclear test engineer. He retired with the shipyard at its closing in 1996, and moved with his wife Jessie back to his hometown of Gaffney to farm. Jeff substituted for Cherokee County School Systems for twelve years until his passing. Over the years, Jeff served as Sunday school teacher, RA teacher, choir member, and deacon at Pincrest Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church. He loved his wife, Jessie, through their 48+ years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jeff Blanton Jr. and wife, Lenora C., of Pendleton, S.C., Jesse Blanton, of Boiling Springs, S.C., Jason Blanton and wife, Amy Kennedy, of Charleston, S.C., and Jonathan Blanton and wife, Heidi, of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Charlie Blanton and wife, Mickey, of Nesmith, S.C., and Steve C. Blanton and wife, Deana, of Gaffney, S.C.; a sister, Karen Way and husband, Nick, of Gaffney, S.C.; and nine grandchildren, Ellis Clarke, Matthew Blanton, Ashton Blanton, Kennedy Blanton, Jake Blanton, Gabriel Blanton, Rhett Blanton, Avah Blanton, and Cody Blanton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Blakely Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Duvall and Reverend Bryon McEntire officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Unit, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615; or Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
