Services were held at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Anthon with Rev. J. G. Skahill officiating with Rev. Robert Leiting. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home. Mr. O'Connell was born March 21, 1898, at Oto, to Jeffrey O'Connell, Sr., and Emma Eisenmenger. He married Elva Gothier February 18, 1919, at Anthon. He moved to Anthon in 1903. He farmed in the Anthon-Oto area until 1948 when he moved into Anthon. Here he owned and operated the O'Connell Feed Store until 1975 when he retired. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a school director in Grant Township, serving on the Woodbury County school board. He belonged to the Agriculture Adjustment Administration. He was a county weed commissioner. He was on the advisory and building board of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a longtime member of the Anthon Community Club and was a member of the town council. He had sold DeKalb seed corn since 1938. Survivors include his widow, a son, Vincent of Oto, a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Pauline) Kirsch of Hornick, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a brother, Paul of Oto. He was preceded by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
