Read More	Mrs. Lew Benedict of 866 Fourth Ave Cedar Rapids, died Sunday morning June 9. She was 54 years old. Mrs. Benedict, daughter of Mrs August Benson of Elgin, was born at McGregor, Iowa 29 April 1977. Her girlhood years were spent here in Elgin, where the family had moved from McGregor, and after finishing school she went to Cedar Rapids where she held a secretarial position for a number of years. There she met Lew E Benedict and was married to him in October 1912 at the home of her parents here. Her life in Cedar Rapids can best be told by her home paper, the Cedar Rapids Gazette, from which we quote as follows: Mrs. Benedict was one of the most generous of women in helping others no matter what their station in life, and she was respected and esteemed by all who knew her. She gave unstintingly of her time and talents to the organizations of which she was a member, she unostentatiously aided countless persons whom she learned needed help, and she did much to promote the cultural advantages of Cedar Rapids. She was treasurer of the Cedar Rapids Symphony orchestra association and one of the most enthusiastic workers in its campaigns. She was a section president of the Needlework Guild and had been an active member in it since the early days of its organization. Mrs. Benedict also was secretary-treasurer of St Mary's Guild of Grace Episcopal church, of which she was a member, and was largely responsible for the flowers given by the guild to all the patients at St Luke's hospital each Easter Sunday. She was a lover of flowers and of nature study, had been a member of the Cedar Rapids Garden club for many years, and was active in sponsoring the annual flower and garden shows. Her interest in flowers was exemplified in the beautiful gardens at her home. Other organizations of which Mrs. Benedict was a member are the Tourist club, the Country club where she took par in the women's golf tourneys as well as its social affairs, and she was an associate member of the Business and Professional Women's club, and a past officer of Malta chapter of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Benedict also was a patroness of the Delta Delta Delta sorority of Coe college. In addition to her mother and Mr. Benedict, Mrs. Benedict is survived by one brother, O M Benson of LaSalle, IL and two sisters Mrs. Fred Falb of La Cross, WI and Mrs. Boies Capper of Postville. The body was taken by auto to Elgin where services were held in the family residence at 3 pm and burial made in the family lot. Elgin Echo, Elgin, Iowa, June 1931
