Thank you ----------------------------- The Church of the Brethren in Orange Township, south of Waterloo, in a service Sunday beginning at 10:45 a.m. commemorate the life of Mrs. Jennie Blough Miller, who died in service on the India mission field on March 18, 1932. Mrs. Miller was the daughter of P. J. Blough of this community and was reared here. She contracted the disease known in India as black water fever while engaged in the routine duties of a missionary and died despite efforts of the best medical authorities of that section. She was born, on Dec. 8, 1893, in Somerset County. Pennsylvania, the daughter of P. J. and Kate Blough. Her mother died when she was nine years old. When she was 12 she came with her father and stepmother to this community, which was her home until she left for the mission field. She was graduated at the age of 17 years from West High School in Waterloo and for three years taught In the public schools of Black Hawk County. Later she attended Mount Morris College, Mount Morris Ill., receiving a B. A. degree when 24 'years old. She was married in June of 1918 following graduation from college, to A, S. B. Miller, also of this community and in December of the following year they sailed for the mission field of India, in fulfillment of their life ambition. They had served continuously since, with exception of a one-year leave on furlough in this country. The mission field was a life aspiration of Jennie Slough. Her interest was aroused in the home and community that advocated and taught missionary responsibility and intensified by the inspiration of the lives of Eliza and Sadie Miller, the Pioneer Orange township representatives in the missions to India. Orange church leads in its denomination for representation in the foreign mission fields. Mrs. Miller was the mother of three daughters, Josephine, 13 years old; Marjorie 11, and Maurine, seven. Besides the daughters and her husband, there survive her father and stepmother and two brothers; D. S. Slough, Waterloo, and Homer Slough, Harrisburg, Pa. Mrs. Mary Shull, a step-sister, also is a missionary in India. They were associated in childhood, thru school and college days and in their chosen life work. Services Sunday will include talks on her life from several viewpoints. Alvin Summy will speak of “Early Recollections,” Miss Eliza Miller, an associate on the mission field, will tell of the work there done by Jennie Blough Miller. The sermon will be by Rev. C. D. Bonsack, general secretary of the mission board of the church, Rev. W. H. Yoder, pastor, will conduct the gold star service. Miss Esther Gissell will sing two numbers and there will be a vocal duet by Mrs. R. W. Lichty and Mrs. C. G. Miller. Waterloo Daily Courier Apr 22, 1932
