Maranell says her mother taught her children how to get through tough times, and make the most of their clothing. She says her mother never really wanted to live to be 100, but when she had to go to a nursing home, she didn't lose her sense of humor. "In later years her mind wasn't so good, but the nurses were always telling us about the amusing answers she would come up with when they asked her a question. She was their favorite resident." Jennie Neuhauer, 100, a retired farmer, died Sunday Feb. 19, 1995, at Sunrise Nursing Home in Tyler, Minn. Jennie Schnose was born Aug. 2, 1894 in Davis. She moved with her family to Hurley where they lived before moving to Sioux Falls. She attended Washington High School for a year, and graduated from Dell Rapids High School. She married Theodore Neuhauer in September 1913 in Redfield. They farmed north of Hurley and later moved into Hurley where they operated the Standard Oil Station. After retiring, they traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Her husband died June 13, 1974. Mrs. Neuhauer was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and a charter member of officer of Green Thumb Garden Club. She served as 4-H leader many years and served as an Extension Club officer. She is survived by a son, Theodore "Ted" Neuhauer, Hurley, three daughters: Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Nelson, Cincinnati; and Mrs. Burdett (Edna) Maranell and Mrs. Lillian Waskel, both of Tyler, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
