Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com to submit online condolences. Jennie was born near Ida Grove, Iowa, on Dec. 26, 1919, to William Ashley and Agnes (Condon) Cunningham. She and her brother, Gerald, grew up in Lake View, Iowa. The family owned and operated the Cunningham Cafe, a popular gathering spot. Jennie graduated from Lake View High School in 1937 and attended the University of Iowa, where she met and married William Edgar (Ed) Jackson of Early, Iowa, on Sept. 8 of 1940. After his service as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps, they settled in Sioux City, where he taught various sciences at East High School until retiring in 1977. They had four children, Jean born in 1943, John born in 1945, Lee Ann born in 1949 and Kay born in 1953. Jennie's life centered around her family and her many close friends. She loved to cook and entertain. She was an avid reader of novels and poetry and used her public speaking talents on many occasions. She was active in Grace and St. James Methodist Churches and was devoted to the philanthropic organizations T.T.T. and P.E.O. of which she was president and a 50-year member. Each summer brought long family vacations around America, where she directed activities from the small travel trailer that served as the family's mobile summer home. She loved sports and especially enjoyed viewing football, basketball and golf. Following his retirement, she and Ed resided at Lake Okoboji, Iowa, and Mesa, Ariz. for 34 years. Lake Okoboji became a family retreat. Last summer was typical, when she welcomed visits from 28 family members, some several times. Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Jean and Richard Tebay of Albuquerque, N.M., John and Linda Jackson of Osprey, Fla., Lee Ann and Ben Kincaid of Venice, Fla., and Kay and Larry Shiembob of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gerry; and her husband, Ed who passed away in 2000.
