Description	:	CIRCLEVILLE -- Jennie Mae Karns Miller, 91, Circleville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at a Sabetha care facility. Mrs. Miller taught history, mathematics and science from 1932 to 1972. She began her career in Delia High School and later taught in Ontario, Circleville, Soldier and Bancroft. She and her husband also built and operated the first frozen food locker in Holton, owned and operated a grocery store in Circleville, and farmed for many years. Read More	CIRCLEVILLE -- Jennie Mae Karns Miller, 91, Circleville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at a Sabetha care facility. Mrs. Miller taught history, mathematics and science from 1932 to 1972. She began her career in Delia High School and later taught in Ontario, Circleville, Soldier and Bancroft. She and her husband also built and operated the first frozen food locker in Holton, owned and operated a grocery store in Circleville, and farmed for many years. She was born Sept. 22, 1910, on a farm near Ontario, the daughter of John Wesley and Hattie Bell Organ Karns. She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1928 and earned a bachelor's degree in history at Kansas State University in 1932. Mrs. Miller was a member of Circleville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women at the church, the Retired Teachers Association, Jackson County Historical Society and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she had served as worthy matron eight times between 1951 and 1990. She also was a former Republican committeewoman and a charter member and 50-year member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She married Stewart Miller on July 27, 1935. He died June 27, 1982. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Miller, Meriden, and Keith Miller, Overland Park; a daughter, Anita Hempy, Overland Park; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Circleville. Burial will be at the Ontario Cemetery north of Circleville. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Bancroft Depot Restoration Fund or the Circleville Alumni Association and sent in care of the funeral home.
