[Ephriam Henry] SMITH, whose death was announced from Chicago on Wednesday, June 1, was brought home for burial on Friday, June 3. MRS. SMITH was born near Sharon, LeSuer County, Minn., on February 28, 1862, and died June 1, 1898, aged 36 years, 3 months, 4 days. [Ephriam Henry] SMITH, whose death was announced from Chicago on Wednesday, June 1, was brought home for burial on Friday, June 3. MRS. SMITH was born near Sharon, LeSuer County, Minn., on February 28, 1862, and died June 1, 1898, aged 36 years, 3 months, 4 days. With her parents she came to Iowa about 30 years ago, locating innionville, Appanoose County. In 1863 the family moved to Decatur County, finally locating in Lamoni, in 1881. Her parents, MR. and MRS. RANDALL, are well known to all the old residents in this community. The deceased was identified with our public schools for many years as an efficient teacher. Her influence was felt in social and religious circles and in many ways she had endeared herself to a large circle of friends. She was married to E.H. SMITH on February 14, 1883. Those who were premitted to spend a time in their delightful home can testify to her devotion as a wife and her sterling qualities so clearly manifest in her unselfish ministry to her friends. Her illness began more than a year ago but was not thought to be dangerous or even serious until the last few months. Her sufferings during this last period were intense and after our local physicians had exhausted their skill, they advised taking her to Chicago. She was taken there on Tuesday, May 24. The consulting physicians advised an operation, which was performed on Saturday, May 28. The operation was apparently successful and everything was hopeful for a speedy recovery, and upon the assurance from doctors and nurses that she was in no immediate danger, her husband left her, in charge of friends, and returned home to attend to some important matters. She sank very rapidly and died before MR. SMITH could reach Chicago. She was unconscious during the entire time and was given every possible attention, but all the efforts of the nurses and physicians availed nothing. Her remains were brought here Friday noon and the funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, conducted by A.E. CLEMENS, of Seymour, Iowa, a lifelong friend of the deceased. The large congregation present at the funeral services indicated the high esteem in which she was held in Lamoni. The flowers were beautiful. The body was interred in the Creveling Cemetery (sic, should be Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa). MR. SMITH and the relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community. Among the friends from a distance were: MR. and MRS. TIFT and MRS. BELLE SCOTT, of Blythesdale, Mo.; MR. and MRS. FRED TEALE, of Leon; MR. and MRS. CHAS. TEALE, MR. and MRS. She was taken to Chicago by her kind husband and attending physician for the purpose of having an operation performed by the surgeon of that place. Mrs. Smith had a tumor of the stomach which after extraction resulted almost in immediate death. It is a severe trial for the affectionate husband and fond parents, sisters and brother and numerous friends who mourn her loss. They have our sympathy. ===============================
