Lind, one of the real pioneers of Hawarden, but who had resided in Brooklyn, New York For the past twenty years, passed away last Thursday at her home following an illness of but nine days from pneumonia. Although Mrs. Lind was well advanced in years she had enjoyed good health up until her last illness. Her son, J.O. Lind of this city, received word last Wednesday of his mother's serious illness and left that day for New York jut she had passed away before he reached her bedside. The remains were brought to Hawarden, accompanied by ier son, arriving on the North Western afternoon train Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the home of her son at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery, beside her husband and two children. Jennie Sophia Pearson was born in Kumla, Sweden, March 6, 1841, and passed away May 8, 1930, at the advanced age of 89 years, 2 months and 2 days. She was united in marriage with J. P. Lind in 1867 and four years later they came to America, locating at Dixon, III. Eight children were born to this union, six of whom preceded her in death. She came to Calliope with her family shortly after Hawarden was established and Mr. Lind engaged in the mercantile business. Later he moved his store to Hawarden and for many years was one of the most prominent business men of this city. After Mr. Lind retired from business, they moved to New York about twenty years ago and she had made her home in the east since that time. Her husband passed away more than fifteen years ago. Since her husband's death she had been looked after by her daughter, Mrs. Anna Woodward, and her granddaughter made her home with her. She is survived by two children, J.O. Lind of Hawarden, and Mrs. Anna Woodward of Brooklyn, N.Y. The deceased was in her teens when the Waldenstrom revivals swept over Sweden and it was when being a Christian meant persecution and misunderstanding that she took her stand for Christ and ever since she was a most devout, conscientious child of God, a woman of most noble character and high ideals, beloved and held in high esteem by all who knew her. During her early life in Hawarden she did much to help people around her who were in less fortunate circumstances. The support of a cripple lad in India was the source of great joy to her heart the later years of her life. Many others have been comforted by her thoughtful gifts in the time of need. The word of God was her constant companion and prayer and fellowship with God's children was her chief delight. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 5/15/1930
