Description	:	Wife was Mari (Marie) Sorlie (Rud) Ostberg. Together, they immigrated to Canada in 1909 to be with their children who came before. Children were Berte, Hans Jensen, Carl Jensen, Inga M, John and Ole. The Alberta Death Registration for 1913 shows a Jensen Ostebery (sic?) passed away in Sleepy Hollow. Not sure if this is the same person, although it was the closest entry. Submitted information: Jens Ostberg and Mary Sorlie (or Solberg or Andersdatter) were married in a district named Nordre Odalen, Norway. They moved from there to Gulderket, a little settlement in the district of Eidsvoldwich, where the nearest railroad station and town were approximately 7 English miles away. They probably moved there shortly after their marriage. All their 7 children were born there. They are: Adolf (calls himself Berg); Berte (Mrs. Olaf Enger); Hans; Ole; Carl; Inga (Mrs. E. Bach, then Mrs. Hans Anderson, born at Eidsvolwich in Hedemarken, Norway); and John (Berg). In the spring of 1903 or 1904, Inge, Adolf, Ole, and their brother-in-law Olaf Enger left Norway. Adolf, Ole, and Olaf went to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Inga went to Vernon, South Dakota. The remarkable thing is that they travelled from Oslo, Norway to Winnipeg for the price of only 55 Krone, which amounts to about 8 or 9 dollars. This included board and berth on the boat and the hotel in England. Inga told of the rats that infested the English hotel, overrunning the floor and walls so that she was unable to sleep at all. Inga was then 18 years old. Her Uncle Martin Johnson had paid her passage so she went to work for him at Sisseton, South Dakota at $3 a month to pay him what she owed. Later, she was offered more pay by her future mother-in-law, Mrs. Halvor Bach, and she went there to work. During that same year, but sometime later, Adolf's wife and son left Norway and met her husband at Selkirk, Manitoba. Still later the same year, Berte left Norway and joined her husband, Olaf Enger, also at Selkirk. In later years, the Olaf Engers and their large family moved to Wainwright, Alberta. In the late fall of the same year, their father and mother, Jens and Mary, Hans and his wife, Mina (newlyweds), and John left Norway going to Vernon, South Dakota to Mary's brothers, one named Erick Ruud, and another named Andrew Sorlie, and to a sister, Mrs. Martin Johnson. They spent the first winter with Erick Ruud, whose wife had died of tuberculosis that year. In 1905, Jens and Mary, and Hans and Carl went to North Dakota to homestead near Tioga. Adolf and Ole came from Selkirk, Manitoba and also homesteaded. On New Year's Eve, 1905, Inga Ostberg married Edward J. Bach. He was the son of Halvor Erickson Bakken (born Jan, 14, 1841) who had probably come to America with his family before or during the Civil War. He changed his name to Bach on coming to America. Inga and Edward were married in a country church out of Sisseton, South Dakota. Edward's cousins Christine Myrberg and George Unseth were attendants. (They later married each other and eventually moved to Oregon). Sigred Unseth was also a relative of Edward Bach.
