Vigen, native of Norway and for many years a sailor on the high seas in the days of the old windjammers, passed away at 6 o'clock a.m., Saturday, at his home three miles east of Bynum. He was 80 years, nine months and six days old, and his passing was generally due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Vigen was born at Stavanger, Norway, July 12, 1850. He came to America when he was 20 years of age, and for several years thereafter followed the life of a sailor on the high seas, visiting many ports of the world. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Larson at Whalen, Minn. Not long after his marriage, he and his wife went to Nielsville, Minn., where they made their home and raised a large family of children. In 1911 they came to Teton county and settled on a homestead near Bynum, where they since made their home. Surviving the deceased are his widow, ten children, 41 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. The children are: Alfred of Bluffton, Alberta; Louis of Fort St. John, British Columbia; Bennie of Grygia, Minn.; Gilbert of Tunbridge, N.D.; Martin of Choteau; Carl of Bynum; Mrs. O. Rodahl of Holt, Minn.; Mrs. Carl Daley of Half Moon, Mont.; Mrs. Arvil Monkman and Mrs. Tobias Talifson, both of Bynam. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in Choteau cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank George, Pete Kelly, Theodore Caulfield, E.G. Harris, Adolph Saterlie and N.L. Pierson.
