Read More	Jerald “Jerry” Van Dover, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Angelhaus in Aberdeen, SD. Services will be held at a later date. Jerald “Jerry” Van Dover was born on February 23, 1934, to Floyd and Amy Marie (Siemann) Van Dover in Aberdeen. He grew up and attended school in Westport, SD and graduated in 1952. While in high school their mascot was the Wolverine, “the toughest animal pound for pound in the world”, or so he thought. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged. On August 13, 1953, Jerald married Audrey Dunkel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport SD. They made their home in Aberdeen and together, they had three sons. They enjoyed trips to Jerry’s stock car races, softball games, as well as entertaining and playing cards with friends. Jerry was part of the original group of individuals to participate in weekly stock car racing in this area. First at Tacoma Park, and later at Speedy Hollow, near Bath, SD. The family spent many hours together fishing, and camping. Later, he continued to share his love for the outdoors, particularly fishing with their 3 grandchildren. They certainly loved and admired their grandfather’s “Quipps” of life. He also enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants and shared that love with his sons. The outdoors was always a large part of his life. In an effort to maintain that connection he began to participate in Triathlons in his 50s. Later in retirement he continued biking and walking when his eyesight started to fail. Walking an average of 20,000 steps a day, usually 7 days a week. He had a servant’s heart, always giving of his time and talents. He was known as the “McGuyver” of the family. Fixing things, moving people and was always the first to visit friends and family in the hospital and nursing homes. All done quietly avoiding recognition when he could. He was a philosopher of sorts, sharing his wisdom in order to teach and lift up. When looking for something lost, and later found either in his pocket, or in easy sight. He would comment, “Guess there’s a difference between looking, and seeing.” Grateful for having shared Jerry’s life are his wife, Audrey; children: Dan (Susan), Daryl (Crysolyn), and David Van Dover (Janet Wilson); grandchildren: Rebecca (Jason) Munsch, Gary Van Dover, and Tyler Van Dover; great-grandchildren: Samus, Lucas, and Marcus Munsch; siblings: Kenneth (Elaine) Van Dover, Phillip (Kay) Van Dover, Beverly & Robert Robinson, and Owen, Donald, Linda Brooks, Margaret Davis, and Mark (Linda) Van Dover.
