Britt Was a Well Known Pioneer in Plymouth County A Successful Farmer Came Here With Parents Over Three Score Years Ago Jerry A. Britt, a resident of Plymouth county since 1871, passed away at his home on Central Avenue SW on Saturday, April 2, at 4:10 pm. Deceased had been in poor health for some time, but was able to be out and around until six weeks ago, when he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered. Mr. Britt lived nearly all of his life in this vicinity and was widely known. His parents were early settlers in Iowa, coming to the West from Virginia and Kentucky. Jeremiah A. Britt was born near Garryowen, in Jackson county, Iowa, January 20, 1869, a son of Thomas and Honora Britt. They migrated from eastern Iowa to Plymouth county in the spring of 1871 and homesteaded land in Union township. Jerry Britt grew up on the farm and attended country school and assisted in farm work. In conjunction with his brother, Jas. Britt, he farmed in Union and Stanton townships all of his life. The brothers retired from the farm three years ago, when they moved to this city and purchased a fine modern residence. Mr. Britt was a bachelor. He leaves to mourn his death his brothers and sisters, Mrs. James Carel, LeMars; Mrs. Catherine Carel of Sioux City; Mrs. Charles Lite of Hinton; James Britt of Pipestone, Minn.; Joseph and Thomas Britt of LeMars. He also leaves twenty-two nieces and nephews. Funeral This Morning Funeral services will be held at St. James Catholic church Tuesday morning at 9 am. Burial will be made in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery in Lincoln township with Wiltgen's in charge. Six nephews of the deceased will act as pall bearers. They are James, William and Bernard Carel and Clarence, Minert and Aloys Britt. He was a life long and devoted member of the Catholic church. He was an honest and upright citizen, a true friend and a good neighbor, and will be missed by the entire community where he lived.
