She didn't know where Peter Lanning was buried. Since he was in the 1860 census for Somerset County, Pennsylvania, it is thought that he might have passed away there around 1864 or 1865. Ethel Albin also had a letter that her great grandmother Mary Eleanor (Powell) Lanning had written to her son and Ethel's grandfather John Leander Lanning in 1884 . She told her... She didn't know where Peter Lanning was buried. Since he was in the 1860 census for Somerset County, Pennsylvania, it is thought that he might have passed away there around 1864 or 1865. Ethel Albin also had a letter that her great grandmother Mary Eleanor (Powell) Lanning had written to her son and Ethel's grandfather John Leander Lanning in 1884 . She told her son that Peter Lanning had died 4 Feb. 1863/5 in Perry Co., OH. No headstone or proof of that has been found, so it isn't known if Ethel's great grandmother was remembering correctly. That date was before the Perry Co. death records. If Peter Lanning did pass away in Perry Co., he might have been visiting relatives or traveling. No obituary or gravestone has been found in either Somerset County, Pennsylvania or Perry County, Ohio for Peter." ----------------------------------------------- Jeremiah's inscription is on the north side of the obelisk that he shares with his first wife, Jane. Jeremiah aka Jerry was first married to Jane C. Younkin. They are shown in the 1850 Census for Wapello County, Iowa with a daughter, Mary A., age 7. Mary is also with her parents in the 1856 and 1860 Census records, and I can find nothing further on her after that. After Jane's death, Jeremiah married Mahala Florence Talbott in Wapello County, Iowa, on April 9, 1885. On the marriage record, Jeremiah's parents are named as Peter and Elizabeth (King) Lanning. Jeremiah was 62-years-old at the time of his marriage to Mahala, and she was 27. Mahala is shown in the 1900 Census of Wapello County as a widow, living with their three children, Mary, age 13; Ross, age 11; and George, age 7. Mary, daughter of Jeremiah and Mahala was married to Henry A. Newman on May 24, 1904, in Agency, Iowa. In the 1930 Census for Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, Mahala was living with Henry, Mary, and their family. In the 1940 Census, Mary was widowed, and Mahala was still living with her. Mahala died on August 17, 1940, in Chicago.
