Description	:	Jerry L. Chapin 94, formerly of Monticello, Indiana, died February 23, 2004 in Indianapolis. Jerry had moved to Indiana just one year ago from Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Linden, Michigan on July 7, 1909 to the late Jerry and May (Hobart) Chapin. On August 20, 1932, he married Gertrude E. Fisher who died in 1974. He owned Jerry's Service in Idaville, Indiana from 1937 to 1957. During that time he also served in World War II in the U.S. Navy where he learned radar. Jerry had moved to Indiana just one year ago from Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Linden, Michigan on July 7, 1909 to the late Jerry and May (Hobart) Chapin. On August 20, 1932, he married Gertrude E. Fisher who died in 1974. He owned Jerry's Service in Idaville, Indiana from 1937 to 1957. During that time he also served in World War II in the U.S. Navy where he learned radar. Returning to his family and business in Idaville, he used his newly acquired radar skills in the early sales and repair of televisions. After moving to Monticello in 1957, he then sold Great Northern Insurance. On October 25, 1975, Jerry married Florence Clark with whom he moved to Mesa, Arizona in the early 1980's and remained there until her death in February, 2003. Jerry was well known as an accomplished fisherman, and made friends wherever he went due to his great sense of humor. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Langdon of Indianapolis; a son, Jerry Fisher Chapin of Cross, South Carolina; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Jim Clark of Calabasas, California; four step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. at Fisher Voorhis Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, IN. Friends who remember Jerry may greet the family beginning at 1 p.m. Graveside services will immediately follow the memorial service at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Easter Seals, P.O. Box 1097, Indianapolis, IN 46206-1097. Local arrangements by Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel.
