Read More	Highland Recorder November 18, 1921 JEREMIAH JOHNS Died, Nov. 7th, 1921, Jeremiah Johns, aged 80 years. Mr. Johns died on the spot he was born on his grandfather Jeremiah's farm, was one of pioneer settlers on the Estell road up Shaw's Fork, built in 1753, by order of the court of Augusta County , From Estell's Mill on the Bullpasture to the Lewis road on the Great Calfpasture, at what was later known as the Pendleton Lane. At his grandfathers's house was the first post office west of the Shenandoah for all Pendelton and Bath Counties. Mr. Johns left five sons living and one daughter, Mrs Kincaid, deceased. The three, William, Jacob and Bryson, of Coles county, ILL., and Robert of Richmond, Va., were present at the burial. The youngest, Ira Corlye. lives on his father's homestead. He was laid by his ancestors near the old home. His funeral was conducted by the Revs. Mr. Snead and Mr. Moffett, of McDowell. Mr. Johns was married three times Misses Church, Hicklin and McCoy. The first wife was mother of four boys and daughter; Miss Hicklin of the youngest son. Mr. John's life was miraculously saved when a boy of 8 or 10 years. He was riding behind his father, went up to the Shenandoah mountain when the Parkersburg road was building, about 1840. They stopped in the new-built road and a tree afire above on the mountain side fell suddenly and killed the horse but did not hurt father or son. Mr. Johns was one of twelve men of Highland county that voted for Abe Lincoln for president in 1860. Mr. Johns was a union man during the Civil War and was detailed to make shoes and boots for the boys in the Confederate army. Several boys were killed with Jerry's shoes on. One boy was buried at Hotchess' Run and one at Sailors Creek in his shoes, on the road to Appomattox. This work was faithfully performed for the Confederacy as the writer personally knows. They will reside at the home of the groom on Shaw's Fork. Hotel Wedding Jerry Johns and Miss Mary McCoy, of Eastern Highland, were united in marriage at Hotel Comercial last Monday afternoon, A. A.
