Monroe, la., June 18. - After a lingering illness there died at his plantation home near Logtown, la., last night the oldest native white citizen of Ouachita parish and head of one of the oldest and most respected families in this section, Mr. Jerome Bres. He was 79 years old and his long life was spent in usefulness and good thought undemonstrative citizenship. Mr. Bres was twice married and left a large number of children by each wife. His first wife was Miss Francis [Filhiol], a sister of the late Baptiste and Hypolite [Filhiol], grandsons of Don Juan [Filhiol], commandant of Fort Miro, the first settlement on the Ouachita. The issue of that marriage were Father Jerome Bres, a Catholic priest, who sacrificed his life on the altar of duty at Alexandria during a typhoid fever epidemic; Hypolity of Shreveport; Aurora, now Sister Jerome of the Lepers' Home in this state; F. C. of Lake End, La. His second wife was Miss Katherine Quinn of this city and the issure of this union were Annie, now Sister Mary Agnes of St. Vincent's Convent, Shreveport; Joe C., of Logtown; Mrs. M. Fahy, deceased; Mrs. J. [Renaud], deceased, late of this city, and Teasye of this city. The remains were brought to Monroe this morning and were buried from St. Matthew's Catholic church, the interment being in the Catholic cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by the leading citizens of the Logtown neighborhood and of this city.
