Description	:	Jerome Edward Harre, 69, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home near Exeter. He was born May 31, 1931 at the Harre family farm just northeast of Exeter to John Henry and Theresa E. (Leif) Harre. Jerome grew up on the family farm near Exeter and graduated from Exeter High School in 1949. He was drafted into the Army in June of 1952, where he was stationed at Ft. Read More	Jerome Edward Harre, 69, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home near Exeter. He was born May 31, 1931 at the Harre family farm just northeast of Exeter to John Henry and Theresa E. (Leif) Harre. Jerome grew up on the family farm near Exeter and graduated from Exeter High School in 1949. He was drafted into the Army in June of 1952, where he was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, Mo., until June of 1954. Following his discharge, he returned to Exeter where he purchased the Harre family farm in 1965. He continued to farm the home place until his death. He began a 50-year career as a carpenter with Bill Boren Lumber Yard in Fairmont. He then worked for J.P. Cunningham Construction of York and Harre Construction of York. At the time of his death he was still actively working for Harre Construction Inc. It is estimated that he had a hand in building nearly 350 homes in the area as well as many remodels. He married Cathie J. Miller of Exeter on Nov. 8, 1952, and the couple had six children. He was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Exeter and the American Legion William Sullivan Post #218 in Exeter. During his 48-year marriage he enjoyed dancing with his wife and attending country music festivals and shows. He spent his time at home working with his horses, restoring antiques, working outdoors in the garden and in his fields. He enjoyed teaching his three sons the carpentry profession and his three daughters how to sing. He enjoyed telling stories, being with family and friends, meeting new people and humming, singing and whistling. Survivors include his wife, Cathie of Exeter; sons, Alan of Roca, Gary of Exeter and Darrell (Therese) of Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Carol (Rod) Jensen of Parker, Colo., Janice (Mikel) Picard of York, Sharon (Roger) Kenaston of Weston; brothers, Eugene (Mary Ellen) of Dow City, Iowa, Al (Loretta) of Lincoln, Frank (Gayla) of York; sisters, Rita Mae Coffey and Evelyn Coffey of Exeter, Gladys Coffey of Crete, Doris (Richard) Nicholas of Exeter, Joan Kuska of Exeter, Pat (William) Hanson of Tucson, Ariz., Jeanette (Jerry) Paulus of Loveland, Colo., Leona Smith of Omaha and L.D. Smith of McCool Junction; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Harre of Exeter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent; brothers, Paul and his wife Peg, Lawrence and wife Peg, and Kenneth and wife Darlene; brothers-in-law, Leonard Coffey, Edward Coffey, Charlie Coffey and Butch Kuska. Funeral services were held at St. Stephens Catholic Church on Jan. 11, 2001 with Father Kenneth Borowiak officiating. Mike Zeleny was organist and Mark Jenkins, Vanessa Heese and Bob Kenaston performed "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "I'll Fly Away," "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," and "Where the Roses Never Fade." Casket bearers were Richard Coffey, Kenny Harre, Gary Paulus, Roger Harre, Kevin Harre and Daniel Smith. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery with military honors by Wm. Sullivan American Legion Post #218 with arrangements in charge of Farmer Funeral Home. Memorials are directed to the Jerome Harre Family.
