Jerry was blessed with 31 Grandchildren and 38 Great-Grandchildren. Jerry had four brothers Bob Gsthol , Gene Gsthol (Deceased), Dick Gsthol (Deceased), Leo Gsthol (Deceased), and one Sister Doris Overose (Deceased) Jerry was raised on a farm outside of Salem by his father, Alphonse. Upon his Fathers passing at age 9, Jerry was orphaned and raised by family. Upon his graduation from St. Marys in Salem while living with his guardians Alvin and Alice Blankertz he went to work with an Electrical contractor doing wiring installations. When that contract ran out he was laid off and went to work for several of the farmers around Salem doing farm work to make ends meet. Then a gentleman names Bernard Riley noticed him and hired him into McCook Electric where he became a lineman working for the REA (Rural Electrification Association). He worked there in Salem as a lineman and then later a line Superintendent for the Coop. In 1979 they moved to Milbank until Jerry and Ellen retired to Sioux Falls. He was one of the founders of the South Dakota Line Superintendents Association and was elected their first President. He was also appointed the Civil Defense Director for McCook County in the 1970s. Visitation will begin at 1 pm with a 3 pm Christian Mothers rosary and a 7 pm vigil on Friday, October 24th, 2014 at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral is planned for Saturday, October 25th, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. Marys Catholic Church in Salem with graveside ceremonies to follow at the church cemetery. Jerry loved Golf, Fishing, Playing Cards, and getting together with his friends. Jerry will be remembered as Loving Husband and a Father who Loved Life and Loved His Family and especially Loved Children. SAVE
