Read More	SAGER, JEROME HAMILTON—Jerome Hamilton Sager was born in Mifflin county, Pennsylvania, August 15, 1850. He died in the hospital at Hastings, Neb., March 23, 1936, at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 6 days. At the age of twenty-one he came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, being among the very early settlers of the county. He has made the county and Geneva his home ever since, with the exception of one year spent in Colorado. The first few years of his residence here, he taught school at various places in the county, making his home with a sister, Mrs. Jesse Walker, on the farm four miles west of Geneva. In 1878 he was married to Miss Alice Bayles of Ohiowa. They settled at Geneva in a house built by Mr. Sager. The house is still standing and has been his home ever since. Mrs. Sager died in June, 1920, since which time his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Case, has been his homemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Sager were the parents of four children: Pearl, Alfred, and Ethel, one child, a son, dying in infancy. The others still survive and are Mrs. Pearl Case of Geneva, Alfred Sager of Fremont, and Mrs. Ethel Winston of Indianapolis, Ind. Mr. Sager was the last of a family of five to pass on and leaves behind in addition to the three children, several nieces and nephews, and two grandchildren. Soon after his marriage Mr. Sager gave up school teaching and went to carpentering, returning later to the teaching profession. He became the first principal of the Geneva high school. A number of years ago he went into the insurance business and continued in that line until about six years ago, when his health broke. He will be remembered as a genial, industrious, dependable, educationally-minded, public spirited citizen, Christian gentleman with a kind heart in his home and out of it. He had been a member of the Geneva Methodist church for more than fifty years, and an honored member of the I. O. O. F. for more than thirty-five years, having been presented with a fifty-five year medal several years ago. He was one of the charter members of the Fillmore County Fair association and served as its superintendent for many years. For twelve years he was secretary of the board of education of Geneva and was always regarded as one of the stalwarts of the county in educational matters. Being a college man himself, he sought to foster the educational spirit in his home and community. The history of Fillmore county and Geneva, especially the earlier years, cannot be written without incorporating the record of some of the doings of this useful man, especially in the line of educational activities. He will be much missed in his home, church, lodge, and community. He "rests from his labors" and has gone to a well-earned reward. Funeral services will be conducted at the Geneva Methodist church this Thursday afternoon, March 26, at 2:30 by Rev. W. H. Shoaf, the I. O. O. F. having charge at the grave.
