Read More	From Nevada Evening Journal February 17, 1934 (page 6) Funeral Services for Jerome Harrel Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Bishop Funeral Home for Jerome Harrel, 81, long time resident of Nevada, who passed away Tuesday, from an attack of pneumonia following a long decline in health. The service was in charge of Rev. Joseph M. Kennedy of Central Presbyterian church and interment was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who died in 1917. The following story of the life of the deceased was read by the pastor during the service: Jerome Harrel was born at Corydon, Inc., Feb. 28th, 1852. He grew to manhood in the state of Indiana, where he was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe Ann Emily.* To this union six children were born. The young couple came to Iowa in the spring of 1874. Here Mr. Harrel engaged in work at the carpenter trade. He took pride in being one of those who helped in the construction of our local courthouse. He was known as a skilled and busy workman. During recent years he had live most of the time at the home of his son Edwin. He was known as a kind father and husband and as a neighbor who was always willing to lend an helping hand. His death occurred on Tuesday, February 13, 1834, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 13 days. His loving wife preceded him in death on the 16th day of May in 1917. To children, Mrs. E. C. Talley of Lincoln, Neb., and Edwin Harrell of Nevada, also a brother George Harrel of New Albany, Ind., remain to mourn his death, as do four granddaughters and one grandson and three great grand children. This is but a brief chronicle of the long life that was lived by Jerome Harrel and it tells but few of the incidents of his life and but little of the qualities of endeared him to his family and his friends. *SUBMIITTER'S NOTE: Phoebe Ann Emily was born Phoebe Ann Marsh, the daughter of Jesse Marsh and Mahala Ann Crisp. However, on her marriage record she is listed as Phoebe A. Emely and her death record lists her father as Isaac Emily. "Isaac Emily" was her mother's second husband. Mahala Ann Crisp married Jesse Marsh on 3 December 1847. Jesse Marsh died on 15 February 1855 in Harrison County, Indiana. Mahala remarried Isaac Emley/Emily/Emely on 1 November 1856 in Indiana and was, therefore, the only father Phoebe remembered.
