Brorby, 73, Noonan passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Tioga Medical Center, Tioga, ND. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Noonan, ND. A family service was held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Jerome Keith Brorby was born May 27, 1948, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, to Marlyn and Selma Brorby. He was raised and educated in Noonan, graduating from Noonan High School in 1967. He was very active in the gun club and won numerous awards in small bore rifle competitions. After high school, he attended college in Bottineau for one year. He then went on to work road construction with his dad for a short time and then at Chet's Service Station. In 1972, Jerome and his dad went into partnership and started B&B Hardware, which he proudly owned for 50 years. He made many lifelong friends on both sides of the border. He married Clarice Westerness on June 21, 1974. Together they raised four children: Melissa, Heidi, Katie and Jason. Jerome was very involved with the development of the Noonan Trout Pond and served as the board president for several years. He was a member of the Noonan Gun Club and the Moose Lodge. He also was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Jerome enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Some of his most memorable experiences were bear hunting with Bud Schultz and pheasant hunting with the former Vikings head coach Bud Grant and the professional wrestler Vern Gagne. But his favorite hunting partner was his son, Jason. They spent countless hours hunting, deer, geese, pheasants and whatever else they could find to hunt. Jerome also enjoyed sitting on his deck watching the birds, especially his purple martins. Another favorite past time was hatching and raising geese, ducks, pheasants…….the list could go on and on. A few other activities were golfing and combining at the Westerness farm every fall. He passed a lot of wisdom on to his kids and grand kids, such as, "The main thing is, don't get excited! Some people live and learn, some people just live." And "Better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Okay, just one more…. "If you hoot with the owls at night, you can't soar with the eagles in the morning." Jerome is survived by wife, Clarice; children and grandchildren: Melissa; McKenzie, McKenna and Bristol; Heidi (Patrick); Easton and Hayden; Katie (Aaron); Liv and Ace and Jason; sister Brenda (Craig) as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents: Selma Brorby and Marlyn Brorby; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Evelyn Westerness. Stakston-Martin Funeral Home, Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
