Description	:	Jerome M. Meier, 84, of Elm Creek, was called home to our Lord Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Jerome was born December 17, 1932 on the family farm south of Elm Creek in Phelps County. He attended school until the 8th grade, and then began working on the family farm with his dad and brothers. Meier, 84, of Elm Creek, was called home to our Lord Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Jerome was born December 17, 1932 on the family farm south of Elm Creek in Phelps County. He attended school until the 8th grade, and then began working on the family farm with his dad and brothers. Jerome joined the Army in 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict as a military police officer until 1955. He married Beverly Vetter on June 6, 1957 in Chadron, Nebraska. Jerry and Bev had two children, whom they loved dearly, Peggy and Frank. Jerry passed down his spirit of hard work and his love for farming and ranching to his son, Frank. Jerome was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Elm Creek, the American Legion, a great Elm Creek sports fan and served on the local honor guard. Jerome (aka Chief) spent many hard working years farming and ranching and took great pride in raising high yielding crops and producing quality cattle. He was an exceptional fast pitch softball pitcher in his younger days and struck out many of batters. Jerry even once struck out 21 batters in a row, which was one of his favorite stories to tell, of course. He enjoyed hunting, dancing, four wheeler rides with his grandsons, visiting with people and telling oh so so many jokes. Traveling and attending his grandsons school and sporting events filled his days with many special and unforgettable memories. He held a very special place in his heart for his three grandsons and was extremely proud of all their accomplishments and the fine young men they have become. Left to cherish Jerome’s memory are his son Frank Meier and his wife Terri of Elm Creek; grandsons, Foster Meier and his wife Taylor of Tucson, AZ, Dalton Meier of Lincoln, NE, Blaze Johnson and his wife Emily of Cortland, NE; great granddaughter Izabelle Johnson of Cortland, NE; special friend Venetta Johnson of Holdrege, NE; sister-in-law Joan Meier of Kearney, NE; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jerome was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Meier; daughter, Peggy Meier; brothers, Edward and Robert Meier; and sister-in-law, Carol Meier.
