Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. Father Paul Rutten will officiate, Brian Ries will be the organist with Pete Mack as soloist, and Immaculate Conception Church Funeral Choir. Jerome “Stub” Peter Ries was born November 5, 1938, rural Kranzburg, South Dakota to Theodore and Florence M. (Schmitz) Ries. He grew up in Kranzburg and graduated from Waverly High School. Stub married Elaine Kelzer (who was born and raised in Rosen) on July 7, 1962 at Holy Name Church in Watertown. The couple was married for 52 years. Stub had worked putting up steel grain bins, erecting billboards and worked in a fertilizer plant, then was employed at Minnesota Rubber for about 37 years. For spare time jobs he did lawn mowing and handyman work. In his younger years, Stub enjoyed playfully “tormenting” his sisters, snowmobiling in three states for over 20 winters, and goose hunting; then in retirement he enjoyed gardening, his little acreage and cabin where he shared many activities with his family and the grandkids over the years; and his other joy in life was his puppy “Oprah”, the Chihuahua, that just passed away. Stub is survived by his wife, Elaine of Watertown; his children, Nancy (Kevin) Byer of Watertown, SD and Alan “Al” (Jackie) Ries of Sioux Falls, SD; his siblings, Jeannette King, Diane Ries, Charlotte Ries and Douglas (Gayle) Ries all of Watertown, SD; his sister-in-law, Barbara Ries of Sioux Falls, SD; and seven grandchildren, Ben, Sam and Molly Byer, Kate and Emily Ries and Cienna and Alyssa Ostby. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Marvin Ries. - Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel
