After suffering for nearly a year with an arterial ailment, Jerome W. Porterfield, a resident of Fremont for more than forty years, passed away at 5:30 yesterday afternoon. Mr. Porterfield was a native of Findlay, O., where he was born July 25, 1845. He went from there to Council Bluffs, Ia., in 1867 and three years later came to Fremont. He never married. For many years he has made his home with his nephew, Mr. Henry, with whom he was associated in the implement business. Mr. Porterfield possessed exceptionally genial qualities and was a great favorite in certain circles. He was a close student of the markets and for years had been conspicuous at the offices where the daily reports received. To his associates he was familiarly known as “Jerry.” Failing health had impaired Mr. Porterfield’s usual activities for some time past and he had led a quiet life. He held membership in the Fremont lodge of Eagles. He leaves two brothers, Robert Porterfield of Chicago and Charles Porterfield of Seattle, Wash. The former is in Fremont for the funeral. Rex Henry at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Rev. W. H. Frost, rector of St. James Episcopal church, officiated. Members of the Eagles lodge attended the services in a boy, meeting at the hall and marching from there to the residence. Interment was at Ridge cemetery.
