July 30 1925 - Carroll Times - Last Friday afternoon, at St. Anthony hospital, Jerome Wilbur Maher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis T. Maher, died after an illness that dated back only to the previous Monday. Jerome had gone out to Rainbow camp at Odd Fellowa park with the Boy Scouts Monday of last week and during the day began to show signs of illness. Jerome had gone out to Rainbow camp at Odd Fellowa park with the Boy Scouts Monday of last week and during the day began to show signs of illness. On Tuesday he was brought to St. Anthony hospital, and though everything possible was done to alleviate his suffering, death came at 4:40 p.m. Friday. Jerome was born in Arcadia on August 24, 1908, and, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis T. Maher, continued to reside there until 1920, when the family moved to Carroll. While in Arcadia Jerome attended St. John's school, and upon his arrival here attended St. Lawrence school, and would have graduated from Carroll High next year. He was 16 years and 11 months old at the time of his death. The funeral was held from St. Lawrence church on Monday, July 27, Rev. Fr. Cordes conducting the ceremony and burial was made in S.S. Peter and Paul cemetery. The pall bearers were James Gnam, John Gnam, Cornelius Kirk, Frank Nockels, Jos. Feld, and Maurice Goecke, all schoolmates of the deceased. Besides the parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Maher, a brother, Marvin, and a sister, Marguerite, a host of friends and relatives will miss Jerome in the Carroll and Arcadia vicinities.
