He grew up and was educated in Big Sandy, graduating from high school there in 1933. He began working in retail sales. On May 6th, 1936 Jerry married Virginia E. Pearson in Helena. They made their home primarily in Big Sandy, but had also lived in the communities of Great Falls, Billings and Havre. Jerry managed the McCabe Elevator in Havre from 1955 to 1958. In more recent years he worked for Oliver Realty as an insurance/real estate agent. Jerry retired in 1977, but continued to work intermittently in the insurance business until 1984. At that time ihey moved to the Sweetgrass Lodge in Chester to be closer to their daughters. Jerry's health began io deteriorate about two years ago. Following a short stay in the Liberty County Hospital, he died on the afternoon of Thursday, August 27th. He was 73 years old. Jerry was a past member of the Great FaIls Elks Club and the Havre Eagles Lodge. He loved the Sales industry and over the years he had sold many different things (including sewing machines, cars, spark plugs and small tractors. Because of this involvement with the Singer Corporntion, he became an expert tailor, and took great pride in sewing and mending family garments all those years. Jerry also enjoyed carpentry and had completed many remodeling projects for family and friends. Other hobbies included sketching, vegetable "gardening, dancing and playing horseshoes. In his quiet hours he enjoyed reading. Jerry loved his family and just last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, Virginia of Chester, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Chvilicek of Chester, Mrs. Louis (Joann) Shadewitz of of Vancouver, Washington, and Mrs. Lon (Jere) Schaub of Chester; two sisters, Adella Gleason of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Manning (Helen) McIntyre of Conrad; seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers (Burton and Walter), and by a grandson, Brian Chvilicek. Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Big Sandy.
