Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Thursday. Jerry Clifford Rann was born on April 27, 1942, in Le Mars to Adolph Henry and Louise Anna Kathrina (Heeren) Rann. He attended country school and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1960. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army on September 24, 1960. He proudly served as a squad leader until earning his honorable discharge on February 17, 1966, having attained the rank of sergeant. When he returned from the Army he continued his position in the parts department at Grotewold Chevrolet in Le Mars. This position would lead to a 50-year career in sales and delivery of General Motors parts. Jerry would later work at Chuck Wood, Dick Morris, and Reardon-Nuebel Chevrolet. He retired from Nuebel Chevrolet six years ago. On December 5, 1979, Jerry and Ruth Hoorneman were united in marriage at Calvary Methodist Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Oyens, Iowa. He was a 40-year member of the Oyens Volunteer Fire Department and served on the town council. He was also a member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion and was instrumental in the development of the Oyens Veterans Memorial. Jerry was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Le Mars. Many will remember Jerry for his signature seasoning, Klutz Kupp, a mixture of spices created by Jerry and Doc Utesch. He enjoyed family trips, fishing, and hunting. The most important was time spent with his children and grandchildren. Along with family, Jerry and Ruth took weekly "therapy" excursions. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth Rann of Oyens; a daughter, Jacqueline Benstead and her husband Byron of Le Mars and their children Tyler Paulson and Bristen Benstead; a son, Jason Rann and his fiancée Jonna Stockwell of Kansas City, MO; a son, Jami Rann and his wife Tina of Kansas City and their daughters Sadie and Ava Rann; a son, Brian VanDerWilt of Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Henry Rann.
