WILLIS Jerry Willis, 59, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by family. Services were Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment was in the Norwood Cemetery. Jerry was born in Des Moines on May 25, 1947 to Don and Helen (Curtis) Willis. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1965. On Nov. 27, 1968 he was married to Gloria Spring in Udell, Iowa. He was a Navy Veteran serving from 1968 to 1972. Jerry worked as a Police Sargent in Chariton from 1972 to 1977. He was Human Resource Manager for Hy-Vee for 23 years and was currently Human Resource and Training Director for Great Western Bank. And of course he was a farmer. He enjoyed making hay and his horses. Jerry was a very giving man. He loved his church, did missionary work, was a foster parent and was special to everyone he knew. The most important part of his life was his family. Jerry was preceded in death by an infant baby girl in 1971, a brother, Craig Willis, and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his parents, Don and Helen Willis of Chariton; his children: Mark (Jacque) of Independence, MO; Luke (Sarah) of Chariton; Tara (Andrew) Szczepanik, St. Joseph, MO; and Jacob of Norfolk, VA.; three grandchildren; a brother, Todd (Lisa) Willis of Chariton; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "Jerry's Dream Well," a project to dig a well in Haiti where Jerry was a missionary in 1985.
