He was born August 20, 1944, at Oskaloosa the son of Albert and Marie Baker Hoover. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1962. On June 12, 1965, Jerry was united in marriage to Linda Sterner at Bussey, Iowa. Early on, he worked construction and in the evenings drove a grain truck. He continued his semi driving career hauling grain and later hauling cars for Van Gorp's. In 1989, he purchased his own truck and started trucking over the road. As an owner-operator he leased through DRS, Dieomatic, R&M, and lastly for Hoy until ill health forced his retirement in late August of 2010. Jerry enjoyed auto racing, especially sprint cars and NASCAR. He enjoyed football, baseball, basketball and golf. He loved spending time with his family and thoroughly enjoyed his trucking friends. He was a member of the Council Lodge, A.F.& A.M. His family includes his two sons: Doug (& Candace Wainman) Hoover of Newton and Eric Hoover of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Ashley, Tyler, Bret, and Emily; two sisters: Barb Mitrisin of Oskaloosa and Donna (& Gary) Carmichael of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; two sister-in-laws: Coleen Lenger of Bussey and Karen (& Wesley) King of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother-in-law: John (& Rhonda) Sterner of Wheatland, Wyoming; and many treasured nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, on November 7, 2006; his parents; a sister: Kate Vos; and three brothers-in-law: George Mitrisin, Howard Vos and Danny Lenger. Funeral services for Jerry Hoover will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Bryan Latchaw officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral and burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville at a later date. Visitation will be in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Wednesday after 12 noon with the family present at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
