Read More	Jerry Lee Monesmith, 59, of Wenatchee, a former resident of the Leavenworth area, passed from this life on March 28, 1999 and is now in the presence of Jesus Christ, his Lord. Jerry was born Dec. 10, 1939 in Seattle to Chet and June (Henkel) Monesmith. When he was a year old the family moved to Shugart Flats at Plain, where he grew up and received his early education in the one room school house. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1958. Jerry attended the University of Washington and worked summers at the Lake Wenatchee Ranger Station and after receiving his degree in Forestry in 1963, he was employed at the Ranger Station, eventually becoming Fire Management Officer. On April 30, 1966, he married Suzan C. Wick at Wenatchee. In 1975, he transferred to the Okanogan National Forest as Assistant Fire Staff and in 1978 the family moved to Lakeview, OR, where he served as fire staff on the Fremont National Forest. He joined the FIRESCOPE program in Riverside, CA in 1980 as Planning Officer that included the continued development of the Incident Command System which is used by all emergency services worldwide. He became the Training and Safety Officer for the Forest Service in Washington, D.C. in 1983. In 1991 he finally got the job of his dreams as the Forest Service Director of Fire and Aviation Management for Region 6 in Portland, OR. After 32 years with the Forest Service he retired as Deputy Regional Forester for State and Private Forestry. In 1994 he purchased an apple orchard in Palisades and had great enjoyment being an orchardist. Throughout his career, he was involved with the National Wildlife Coordinating Group; Incident Command System; Energetic Wildland Firefighter; Forester and outsdoorsman are descriptive of Jerry's personality. He enjoyed nature, working outside and football. Jerry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal saviour in 1974 and from then on endeavored to live for Christ. He cherished his family and everything he accomplished was for the betterment of his loved ones. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wenatchee. Survivors include his wife, Suzan C. Monesmith of the family home; daughter, Kristin Monesmith of Wenatchee; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Tammy Monesmith of Carrboro, N.C.; mother, June and stepfather, Bill Collinson of Wenatchee; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Joyce Monesmith of Lynnwood; two granddaughters, Caryn and Steffani of Wenatchee and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1971 and a daughter, Camille in 1968. A memorial service of commemoration to celebrate the life of Jerry L. Monesmith will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, April 3, 1999 in the First Baptist Church, with Pastors Virgil Vater; John Patterson and Otto Sather officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in Jerry's name to the First Baptist Church, 1301 Maple St., Wenatchee, WA 98801. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
