Read More	Jerry McMaster Grove, 83, son of Walter John & Hazel Marie (Barnhouse) Grove, was born March 16, 1936 at the family farm, 2 ½ miles north of Guthrie Center. He passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the New Homestead, Guthrie Center, Iowa. He spent his infancy and early childhood on the farm growing up and learning the many chores that needed to be tended to as the son of a farmer and those who made their living from the land. Jerry attended Country School, Seeley #7 until the 9th grade when he transferred to Guthrie Center High School, graduating in 1953. Following the death of his father, he continued working on the farm with his brothers; Lawrence, Gerry, and Dale, into his adult life. Gerry and Dale found other work outside the farm, married and moved to other locations. Jerry and his brother Lawrence made a home to their mother, working the land and tending the farm. In the spring, he and Lawrence were kept busy plowing, disking, and harrowing the ground in preparation for the early summer months of planting, cultivating, and checking the crops. This was done along with milking the cows morning and night every day of the year. Pigs were checked and watched throughout the night as the sows produced more pigs. The hay was cut, turned and baled for future use. Fall season brought the gathering in of the harvest; oats, corn, beans, and the final cutting and baling of the hay which the animals would need for winter feed. And always the fixing and repairing of the farm machinery that had broken down at the very worst time with brother Dale coming to lend his much needed help. Winter arrived and more work; moving snow, trying to get the tractors, and vehicles running as the temperature dropped and the cows still needed milking, corn needed to be ground for the livestock, cows needed hay. That was Jerry’s life - the life of a farmer and he was pretty much content and equally frustrated in that cycle of life as a farmer. Years passed and at the urging of his family he retired around 2011-2012 and allowed others to work the land, selling off his cattle. Now the care of animals dwindled to 2; his dog and cat. In his later years, Jerry accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior when Pastor Jim Ackerson led him to the Lord while visiting with him. Pastor Ackerson showed him from the Bible John 3:16, For God so loved the peoples of the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever, meaning Jerry himself, should not perish but have everlasting life. The Love of God spoke to Jerry’s heart. When possible he attended church at First Baptist Church in Guthrie Center and enjoyed the messages and the messengers, the children made him smile and he also enjoyed the singing along with the peoples there. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary, sisters Evelyn Pohl, Esther Bohlender, Marguerite Pickle, Marie Jarrell Grove, Bethene Phillips, and Gladys Ramussen; brothers John, Arthur, Gerry, Lawrence, and Delbert Grove. He leaves the following to mourn his passing: brother, Dale (Dorothy); sisters, Beverly (Max); Beulah; Patricia (Gary); and Janice; sister-in-law, Virginia. Also many nieces, nephews, and many other family members and neighbors. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 2, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Guthrie Center. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
