He was born July 23, 1935, in Kokomo, the son of the late John R. and Helen (Burt) Caylor. He married Karen Jonsson Butcher January 5, 1977, and she survives. Jerry was a 1953 Kokomo High School graduate and attended Indiana University. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years. He was born July 23, 1935, in Kokomo, the son of the late John R. and Helen (Burt) Caylor. He married Karen Jonsson Butcher January 5, 1977, and she survives. Jerry was a 1953 Kokomo High School graduate and attended Indiana University. He was in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years. He was a plant engineer for Chrysler for 35 years and also operated a Watkins Business with his wife. He worked for Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory for many years after retiring from Chrysler. At the time of his death, he was an administrator at the First Congregational Christian Church of which he was a member. He had also served on many boards at the church, and as his love for the Lord increased with age, he willingly accepted and was actively involved with many church projects. He had also been a member of UAW #1302 and the Second Chance Club, a rehab group for heart patients. He volunteered at the Nearly New Shop, a mission of the First Congregational Christian Church. For the past 18 years, Jerry loved being at their Nyona Lake home and enjoyed many happy times there with family and friends. He was instrumental in getting the Nyona Lake Conservancy set up and sewers installed. He and Karen enjoyed vacations in Hawaii over several winters and had also traveled extensively to many faraway destinations. He also enjoyed family trips and campfires. He will be remembered for his deep and abiding faith, his generous spirit, and his humble, quiet way with all those he encountered. He was a conscientious man who had a wonderful work ethic. His love for family and friends was his greatest joy. He was an avid sports fan and especially liked IU basketball. He started playing golf at the age of ten and continued to enjoy it as an adult. He had fond memories of fishing and hunting with his father and family members. He enjoyed going to all sporting events that involved his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at First Congregational Christian Church, 505 W. Mulberry St. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church. Military Rites, provided by the U.S. Army and the VFW Military Rites Team, will be observed at the church following the service.
