Services were held in Harrison on Feb. 26 at the Methodist Church. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery. Jess was born in Scotia on March 26, 1917, to William David and Anna Christine (Jebens) Locker. At age 2, he moved with his family on an immigrant train-car to a new home south of Glenn, where he grew up with his 10 brothers and sisters, attending Glenn High School, graduating in 1935. On May 2, 1942, Jess married Lela Lea Edgell and into this union, two daughters were born, Kathy Jolene and Diane Sue. Jess and Lela remained married until Lela's death in 1984. Jess started his ranching career in Sioux County working on several ranches. While working as foreman on the Dr. C.R. Watson Ranch in southern Sioux County, he helped erect five of the well-known windmills that provide water for the Watson feedlot. In 1956, he purchased the Ray York ranch 20 miles north of Harrison, which was his yearling operation headquarters for the next 46 years. Jess was very active in the Masonic Lodge, and in 1998, received a very special 50-year pin for membership in the Masonry. He also held the Jordan Medal and in 1999, was given a 50-year pin for the Scottish Rite Lodge. Jess was instrumental in joining with neighbors to pioneer one of the first pipelines for livestock water into the north gumbo country. He was proud of his service as a board member for the Grazing Association for many years, contributing to the use and protection of our national grasslands. Jess and his wife Frances were married Nov. 4, 1996, and made their home in Crawford. He is survived by his wife Frances; daughters, Jolene Hagman of Chadron, her husband Fred, and her children Tate and Te'neyl; and Diane Lemmon of Crawford, and her children Ashley and Colter; sisters, Irene McLinn of Plattesville, Wis.; Goldie Hamaker of Crawford; Frances Nation of Marysville, Wash.; Dorthea Pearman of Arkansas City, Kan.; and Maysie Cole of Centerville, Iowa; and his brother Milo Locker of Alliance. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Locker; brothers, Russell Locker and Cloyd Locker; and sisters, Betty Lee and Mary Meeks. Growing up in cow country; cattle were Jess' love, second only to his immediate family; his 10 brothers and sisters; in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and especially his grandchildren. Jess was very blessed to have actively operated his ranch and complete his paperwork until his recent illness.
