Read More	*No stone per cemetery records Husband of Rebecca Woodall (He married Rebecca when he was 25 years of age) ------------- More Than a Century of Life Jesse Bracken, who rounded out a full century of existence the 7th of June last, was buried here last Wednesday. He was born in North Carolina, but was taken up to Tennessee at an early age. At the age of 25 he married the faithful wife who died here four years ago, after seventy years of wedded companionship. The man and wife soon after marriage moved to central Illinois, the woman riding with the sum total of household goods on a single horse, while the head of the family trudged along on foot. There he knew Lincoln well, and served with him in the Blackhawk War. Some years later the family made a home in Wisconsin. About 1865 they came to Mitchell County, and have lived ever since in this state. With his son he lived for several years on the Van Ness farm, northeast of town. He was remarkably well preserved mentally and physically. Only last year he cultivated with a hoe forty acres of corn. He frequently walked in from the farm, a distance of two miles. Last spring Mr. Bracken went with his son to Mason City, where he died of old age this week. Two weeks ago he had his picture taken with five generations of the family. Four sons and two daughters survive, one of whom is Rebecca, the wife of George Tibbits, of this county. A short time before his death the deceased was baptized into the Methodist church. The remains repose in Lakeview by the side of the faithful wife.
