Read More	From a newspaper: JESSE C. DEWAR, FLATHEAD PIONEER, DIES AT AGE 74 Jesse C. Dewar, age 74, passed away in the local hospital in Kalispell Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Dewar was a native of the Flathead and was one of the first white children to be born in this valley. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Dewar, who homesteaded in the valley in 1883 near Egan. He received his schooling in a small log schoolhouse that stood where the present Egan school is now with James K. Lang and J. D. Rognllen (sic) as his teachers. When 16 (sic) years old he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad as a car repairman in Kalispell. In 1904 he was promoted to car inspector. He worked in that capacity until January 28, 1905, when he hired out as a brakeman. On May 3, 1909 he was promoted to conductor, and worked in that capacity until retiring on Dec. 1, 1952 after fifty years of continuous service with the railroad, and at the time of retirement was the senior conductor on the Kalispell Division. Mr. Dewar made his home in Kalispell until the division point moved to Whitefish, and made his home there after that. After retiring he made his home for a time in Nebraska, and had made his home in Kalispell for the past few years. He was a long-time member of the Whitefish Masonic Lodge, and of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors. Mr. Dewar was married to Adell Stone in July of 1909, and who preceded him in death in December 1936. He was also preceded in death by one son, James A. Dewar, in 1955. In November 1938 he was married to Ida Kruger of Whitefish, and is now survived by his wife, Ida, at the family home at 905 1/2 Eighth Ave. East in Kalispell. He is also survived by six daughters, Mrs. Lucille Gill of Sandpoint, Idaho; Mrs. Jessie Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Rose Connor of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Alice Muncie of Superior, Mont.; Mrs. Margaret Whetsler of Page, Arizona, and Mrs. Cora Shupert of Whitefish; one sister, Mrs. Cora Webb of Kalispell; twenty grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The body is at the Waggener & Campbell Funeral Home and will be taken to the Catron Funeral Home where ritualistic services have been set for Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Whitefish Masonic Lodge 64, AF&AM. Burial will follow in the family section of the Whitefish Cemetery.
