He married Sidney Gregg, daughter of Nimrod Gregg and Catherine Johnson, on 21 April 1814. Jesse Garwood married Mrs Rachel Swain in 1847. Jesse Garwood died on 25 May 1867 at Fulton, Ohio. He was baptized in the LDS church on 22 July 1954. He received his endowment on 15 December 1954. He was sealed as a spouse of Sidney Gregg on 8 December 1955. This is a History of the Garwood Family. Written by Isaac Garwood, 1900. Jesse Garwood was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania 1792. He was reared at the place of his birth, and after arriving at man's estate, went to visit an uncle in Fayette County, Pa. where in the year 1814 he married Miss Sidney Gregg and lived there until after the birth of their first child, Bani, when they moved to Logan County, Ohio, Jefferson Twp. Settling six miles west of Bellefontaine. In 1832 they moved to Wyandott County, Ohio making his home near Upper Sandusky for three years. In 1835 they moved to Hardin County, Ohio settling in Marion Township, on land bought of the Government, and resided there about twelve years. In 1840 he buried the companion of his earlier years in the Pioneer Cemetery at Huntersville, Ohio, and seven years later in 1847 he was united in marriage to mrs. Rachel Swain. To this union were born three children, Jesse, Melissa, and Penina. About 1849 he moved to Jackson Township, Allen County, where he lived for several years, when he removed to Northwestern Ohio where he died in June 1865 aged 73 years. Although a carpenter in his earlier years, his general occupation was that of an agriculturist at which he was successful. In politics he was a Whig, and later, a Republican to the end of his years. He was so loyal to his country that notwithstanding his religion tought the principle of non_combatants, being that of a Quaker or Friends, yet he went to this country's aid and assisted in guarding Perry's Fleet while preparing for the great victory which took place shortly after, and the world knows the result. For this, he received a land warrant which he located when he removed to Iowa. After his death his widow received a pension until her demise 1871. The paternal grandfather of our subject, Joseph Garwood, was born in Pennsylvania, probably Fayette County. He was a skilled sportsman and retained his mental and physical vigor to an advanced age, relating with interest to his attentive listeners many of his hunting stories and adventures but a short time before his death. About 1824 he visited his son Jesse in hardin County, Ohio and bought some lad there, but owing to some subsequent litigation over the title he never made that his home as at one time contemplated. During the Indian Wars in Ohio he served his country as a Captain, at which he was eminently fitted and did good service. His death occurred in Lake County, Illinois, where he moved and lived for some time, and from this place his body was removed to Pa. His wife, Miss Hannah Fenton, his lifelong companion survived him, not passing away to join her husband until she was 88 years old. His father was Obed Garwood who was a direct descendant of one of the three brothers who came over with the colony of William Penn, two of whom were Isaac and Ezra Garwood, the other name being also a Bible name but is now forgotten, two of whom raised families, but the other never married. Jesse Garwood was the father of 12 children all of whom lived to the age of manhood and womanhood. Their names were: Bani, Isaac, Fenton, Asenath, Hannah, Joseph, Lydia, Kathren, Cynthe, Jesse, Melissa, and Penina. Copied 4, 11, 1921 by E. Garwood.
