It has been copied as it was written there with any comments done in italics. Inside the front cover, it is indicated that "This book is the property of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Julian, NC. Finder notify Walter Routh, Julian, NC or Charles A. Ledbetter, 1016 Portland St., Greensboro, NC." On the first blank page is written - "Presented to Shiloh Church, Randolph Charge, for keeping records of the church. By Eugene Brown, 1947." (Believe first entries were made several years earlier, maybe 1936.) Shiloh Methodist Protestant Church, located in Randolph County, NC about one mile south of Julian, NC, was founded in the year 1790 by the family of Hannah Julian which consisted of her son, Jesse, and his young wife, Sarah (Fields) Julian. These people had recently moved into North Carolina from Virginia and were of a deep religious nature. Their first thought after getting settled was to establish a house of worship. It was then that they founded Shiloh. This church was not built as a memorial to the Julian family, but from the motive of a pure heart for the benefit of their children and their neighbors and their children. In the year 1829, The Methodist Protestants organized a class here and called the church Shiloh. Before this time, the name of the church is not known. There were no records of any kind kept so we do riot know how many members were on the roll or who served as pastor(s) of the church group until 1843 or 1844 when the Conference of 1842 sent Joseph Causey for 1843-1844. (An aside note: In another source, Rev. Causey was described as the first "settled" pastor.) Arrington Gray----1845-1846 Joseph Hinshaw----1847 Joseph Causey-----1848 John Hinshaw------1849 A. W. Lineberry---1850 John Parris-------1851 J. H. Gilbreath---1852 This year (1852), a new house of worship was erected and Jesse Julian, Jr. made a deed to the church for a two-acre lot.
