His mother passed away at age 32 when he was ten. His father remarried, and Jesse and his sister, Zella, lived with them. His mother passed away at age 32 when he was ten. His father remarried, and Jesse and his sister, Zella, lived with them. Roy was educated at Hagers Grove, Grubb College, Stringtown, and Leonard schools. He was a graduate of the class of 1923 of Leonard High School. He was employed by Missouri Power and Light Co., C.B.&Q. Railroad, and Mississippi River Power Co., before moving to Shelbina in 1944. There he and his wife, Ruthie Moore, whom he had married in Nov. 1928, bought a store and home. They ran the store for four years and then farmed four miles southwest of Shelbina. In 1958 he began work with the Dept. of Corrections at Jefferson City and worked there as Senior Guard Officer until 1967 when he retired. Following his retirement, Roy and Ruthie bought a home on the Osage River south of Jefferson City. Ruth died in Oct. 1972 and is buried in the Shelbina Masoleum No. 2. In 1979, Roy bought a home in Shelbina and still lives there. Roy's sister, Zella McKinsters lives in Canon City, Colorado. His half-sisters and half-brothers are: Charles of St. Louis, Madge Leicht of St. Louis, Marie DeSalme (deceased), Glen (deceased), and Gracie Lee (deceased). Clarence Courier, Clarence, Shelby, Missouri, August 21, 1996 Roy Strachan, age 93, of Shelbina, died Monday, August 19, 1996, in Salt River Nursing Home at Shelbina. Mr. Strachan was born in Leonard on December 10, 1902, the son of the late Jeremiah R. and Mae Thrasher Strachan. In 1927 he was united in marriage to Ruth Moore, and she preceded him in death. Survivors are one brother, Charles Strachan of St. Peters; and one sister, Madge Leicht of St. Louis. Mr. Strachan was a member of the Shelbina United Methodist Church and graduated from Leonard High School. He owned and operated a grocery store in Shelbina for several years, farmed near Shelbina, worked for the State Prison in Jefferson City, and was a lineman for the Mississippi River Power Company. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 21, 1996, from 6-8 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 22, 1996, at 10 a.m. at the funeral chapel by Rev. Frieda K. Betts. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery at Clarence. Memorials may be made to the Shelbina United Methodist Church.
