He was born at Dover, Illinois, November 27, 1847, and died at his home four miles from Marion, Iowa, Thursday, February 2, 1911, aged 63 years. His life has been spent on the farm save one year in active business in Chicago, Illinois. Read More	Friday February 10, 1911 The Marion Register Jesse Newton Emerson was the third son of a family of seven children of Stephen C. and Malinda M. Emerson. He was born at Dover, Illinois, November 27, 1847, and died at his home four miles from Marion, Iowa, Thursday, February 2, 1911, aged 63 years. His life has been spent on the farm save one year in active business in Chicago, Illinois. In 1869 he moved with his father's family to Mansfield, Illinois, and assumed the chief management of farm matters. He proved to be so efficient, thrifty and economical and met with such success that he sought a newer and wider field. In 1889 he moved with his younger brother and his sister, Mary, who was their faithful homekeeper, to Story county, Iowa, and secured farm lands near Ames, Iowa. His satisfaction and success there brought many of his friends from Champaign county, Illinois, who now give large credit for their prosperity and present beautiful homes. In 1902 he came with his brothers and sister to Marion, and settled on a farm four miles north. Making their residence in Marion so that their sister, Mary, who had been their faithful homekeeper for more than twenty-five years should be relieved from cares. After his sister's death in June 1907 he planned for wedded home life, and in September 1909 was married to Miss Lily A. Woods of Marion. Later, they removed to the home farm where the happy months of a beautiful wedded life were being spent. But man proposes and God disposes. Jesse Emerson was no stranger to christian truth and grace. He was raised in the home of earnest and devoted christian parents, and in his young manhood united with the Methodist Episcopal church. Since his marriage, he has been a faithful worshiper with his wife at the altar of the Presbyterian church of Marion. He leaves in sorrow his beloved wife and his brother James; his sister Mrs. Lulu E. Lee, wife of Rev. Jas. W. Lee, and family, and his only brother, William Emerson. All who knew him best loved him most. THANKS To the friends and neighbors whose kindness and services during the sickness and at the funeral of our husband and our brother, Jesse N.
