Description	:	Jesse O. Brownell, son of Lewis and Melvina Brownell, was born Aug. 31, 1881, and died at his home in Oelwein on Oct. 14, 1955. He spent his early years on a farm near Stanley and in 1903 the family moved to Oelwein where he started working for the Chicago Great Western. In 1904 he married Minnie Kreklau. One daughter was born to them, Marjorie Laura, now Mrs. James Edwards of Oelwein. He again took up farming and in 1914 returned to Oelwein and spent the remaining years in business activities. Surviving are his wife, Minnie, his daughter, Mrs Edwards; a sister, Mrs. W.C. Preston of Wilmimgton, Calif.; one brother, Will Brownell of Oelwein; two grandchildren, Lee Edwards of Lancaster, Calif., and Betty Ann Rhatigan of Cedar Rapids; two great grandchildren, James Jeffery Edwards and Marc James Rhatigan; and a large number of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Mabel. Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Hintz funeral home in charge of Dr. L. W. Hauter, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Lloyd Farloe accompanied by Mrs. A. A. Kaskadden sang. The casket bearers were Claude King, Harold King, George Hill, Carl Lincoln, Roy Larson and Hank Ross. Burial was in Woodlawn. (Obit in the Oelwein Daily Register, Oct. 20, 1955, page 13)
