Description : Jesse was the son of John Morrison and Mariah Pennell.

When the Civil War broke out, Jesse was a resident of Poweshiek County when he enlisted as a Private on 30 Sep 1861 at the age of 27 years. Mustered in Co E 4th Iowa Cavalry on 23 Nov 1861. Jesse reenlisted and remustered on 14 Dec 1863 and mustered out with his company on 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

He married Margaret Ellen Shockey in Michigan in 1866. They had the following known children: John William, Elizabeth, Charles, Willie, Margaret, James, Eliza and Emery.
